Your thyroid is small, but its impact on your health is enormous. Thyroid disorders are among the most commonly mismanaged conditions in medicine β€” often dismissed, undertreated, or reduced to a single lab value. As a board-certified endocrinologist with over 20 years of clinical experience, I’ve spent my career diagnosing and treating the full spectrum of thyroid disorders β€” from the straightforward to the complex cases that other physicians miss. I trained at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed my endocrinology fellowship at Montefiore/Albert Einstein under Dr. Martin Surks, a world-renowned thyroid expert and program director. Thyroid disease has been a core focus of my practice for over 20 years β€” in both traditional endocrinology and at Restore Health LLC, where I integrate functional medicine to address root causes, not just lab numbers. If you’ve been told your labs are “normal” but you still feel exhausted, foggy, or unwell β€” you’re in the right place.

Thyroid Conditions I Treat

  • Hypothyroidism β€” underactive thyroid, including optimization beyond “normal” lab ranges
  • Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis β€” autoimmune thyroid disease, root-cause approach
  • Hyperthyroidism β€” overactive thyroid, including Graves’ disease
  • Thyroid Nodules β€” evaluation, monitoring, and biopsy when indicated
  • Goiter β€” enlarged thyroid with or without hormone imbalance
  • Thyroid Cancer Follow-Up β€” ongoing management after treatment
  • Subclinical Thyroid Disease β€” when labs are borderline but symptoms are real

In-Office Thyroid Ultrasound & Biopsy

One of the advantages of my practice is that I perform thyroid ultrasound evaluations right in the office. No referrals to a separate imaging center. No waiting weeks for results. If a nodule requires further investigation, I also perform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy in-office β€” a minimally invasive procedure done under real-time imaging for precision and comfort. My fee for the procedure is paid directly to the practice. The laboratory and cytology evaluation of the biopsy specimen is typically covered by insurance. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well and can return to normal activities the same day. Faster answers. Less hassle. Better care.

Beyond “Normal” Labs: The Functional Medicine Difference

Standard thyroid care checks TSH and calls it a day. My approach goes further. At Restore Health LLC, I evaluate the complete thyroid picture β€” free T3, free T4, reverse T3, thyroid antibodies, and the lifestyle and environmental factors that drive autoimmune thyroid disease. I explore whether gut inflammation, nutrient deficiencies (selenium, iodine, zinc, vitamin D), or chronic stress are fueling your thyroid dysfunction. The goal is not just to normalize numbers, but to improve energy, cognition, weight, and overall quality of life. For patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, this root-cause approach is especially important β€” because suppressing TSH alone doesn’t stop the autoimmune attack on your thyroid. While I utilize standard insurance-covered labs whenever possible, we may discuss specialized functional testing if it’s necessary to uncover the root of your symptoms. I’ll always be transparent about what’s clinically warranted and what’s optional. Initial functional medicine consultations are 90 minutes. Follow-ups are 30 minutes. You will be heard.

Who Should See Me for Thyroid Care?

  • You’ve been diagnosed with a thyroid condition but still feel unwell despite treatment
  • You’ve been told your labs are “normal” but your symptoms say otherwise
  • You have Hashimoto’s and want a root-cause approach, not just a prescription
  • You have a thyroid nodule that needs evaluation or monitoring
  • You want a second opinion from a specialist with over 20 years of experience
  • You’re seeking care that combines the rigor of endocrinology with the depth of functional medicine
  • You prefer a thoughtful, evidence-based plan rather than a quick, 10-minute visit
